Murray State students who live in Kentucky during the academic year have options for where to vote in the Election in November. Also see the Kentucky State Board of Elections' webpage for College Students.

  • Register to vote in Murray-Calloway County and vote in person in Murray in early voting or on election day.

  • Register to vote at your home address and return home to vote or order an absentee ballot.

Registering to vote in Murray-Calloway County helps you shape decisions that are made where you live most of the year. Keeping your registration at your home address may be easier for you if you plan to move back home after graduation.

Regardless of your decision on where to register to vote, we are here to help you make that decision and to learn about how to vote. Voting is important! Your vote matters!

    Voting Absentee

    • The Absentee Ballot Portal Opens September 21, 2024.

    • If you are registered in another Kentucky county and can not travel back home to vote early or on Election Day, you can order an absentee ballot to be sent to your address in Murray. Click here to order an Absentee Ballot for Kentucky

    • Absentee ballots must be received by 6 pm on Election Day (Tuesday November 5)

    Voter ID

    Kentucky requires votes to show an ID in order to vote. Acceptable forms of ID in Kentucky include:

    • A public or private college, university, or postgraduate technical or professional school located within the United States, and the document contains:

      • The name of the individual to whom the document was issued;

      • ​ A photograph of the individual to whom the document was issued; or,

    If you do not possess an acceptable form of ID, but are a registered voter, you may cast a provisional ballot if you vote in person. Your provisional ballot will count if: (1) you return to your polling place on Election Day with a photo ID; or (2) the signature on your provisional ballot envelope is determined by your local election authority to match the signature on your voter registration record.  If you cast a provisional ballot, you will receive a stub from your provisional ballot envelope with instructions on how to verify that your provisional ballot is counted.

  • The information below is for students who are permanent residents of Indiana, meaning their driver’s license and other important information is based on an address in Indiana, and they do not want to change their voter registration to Kentucky.

    Voting Absentee

    You can vote by mail (Absentee Voting), if you are a registered voter in the State of Indiana and can not return to vote in person. To vote by mail, download this application. To submit your application, email the completed form to your County Election Administrator. You can find their email address on this webpage. The last day to apply to vote by mail is Thursday October 24, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

    To vote, your county clerk will send you an absentee ballot for you to complete. Once you fill in your ballot, you must mail it back to the County Election Board (the address will be printed for you). It is important to mail your ballot in as soon as possible as they must be received no later than 6 PM local time on Tuesday, November 5, 2024

    Voter ID

  • The information below is for students who are permanent residents of Illinois, meaning their driver’s license and other important information is based on an address in Illinois, and they do not want to change their voter registration to Kentucky.

    • Illinois does not require voters to present identification to vote in person. You will only need an ID if you are registering the same day that you are voting.

  • The information below is for students who are permanent residents of Missouri, meaning their driver’s license and other important information is based on an address in Missouri, and they do not want to change their voter registration to Kentucky.

    Voters can request absentee ballots from their local election authority in person, by mail, by fax or by e-mail. They should download this absentee ballot request form. The completed absentee ballot requests must be received by the election authority no later than the 5:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday prior to any election.     Voter ID

    Missouri requires voters to show an ID in order to vote. Acceptable forms of ID in Missouri include:

    • A non expired Missouri driver or non-driver license;

    • A non expired military ID, including a veteran’s ID card;

    • A non expired United States passport; or

    • Another photo ID issued by the United States or the state of Missouri which is either not expired or expired after the date of the most recent general election.

  • The information below is for students who are permanent residents of Tennessee, meaning their driver’s license and other important information is based on an address in Tennessee, and they do not want to change their voter registration to Kentucky. 

    Voter Registration

    Voting Absentee 

    • A registered voter in Tennessee may request an application for a by-mail ballot no earlier than ninety (90) days before the election and no later than seven (7) days before the election.To be processed for the next election, the application must be received by the election commission no later than seven (7) days before the election.

    • You must submit a written request containing the information below to your local county election commission office by the seventh day before Election Day. You can use the absentee ballot request form to make sure all required information is provided.

    Voter ID

    Tennessee requires voters to show an ID when voting. Acceptable forms of ID to vote in Tennessee include:

    • Regular Driver License with photo

    • REAL ID

    • Commercial Driver License

    • Motorcycle License

    • Identification (ID Only) License

    • Handgun Carry Permit with photo

Complaint Hotlines

If you experience a problem on Election Day, please call one of the Election Protection hotlines. The hotline provides one-on-one assistance to voters with questions or problems that may arise. The hotline also identifies the most common issues voters encounter (from language assistance to a misunderstanding of the rules by volunteer poll workers) and gives counties and the state a chance to come up with solutions.
